The Lazio region, particularly around Rome, has experienced significant traffic disruptions caused by a combination of accidents and severe weather. Reports indicate heavy congestion on the Via Aurelia due to an accident near Torre in Pietra, which reduced the roadway to a single lane. Similar delays have been noted on the Via del Mare and the Roma Sud junction. In response to these conditions, the Civil Protection agency issued an orange alert for the region, warning of severe weather for a 24 hour period. These storms have further impacted travel, specifically causing buildup on the A12 motorway between Torre in Pietra and Ladispoli. Additional delays have been reported due to roadworks on the Via Ariana near Lariano. Recent reports indicate that traffic conditions in the capital continue to be heavily impacted by various factors. Significant congestion has been noted on the A24 and the Grande Raccordo Anulare, alongside the ongoing issues on the Via Aurelia and the A12 highway. Furthermore, Rome is facing potential changes to its ZTL Fascia Verde environmental zone. The current ordinance, which restricts highly polluting vehicles, is set to expire on October 31, 2026. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri is reportedly considering a renewal of these restrictions to manage air quality, though a definitive official measure is still pending.
