Traffic restrictions and closures toll increases on northern Iranian roads Iranian-
Traffic management measures on Iran’s northern routes continue to evolve due to congestion and travel demand. As of mid-September, heavy congestion persists on the Tehran-Karaj-Qazvin freeway, with significant delays reported between Modares Town and Mohammadshahr, and between Golshahr and Goldasht. On the Qazvin-Karaj-Tehran freeway, delays are noted from Tavousieh to Kamalshahr and near the Ferdis Bridge. Northern routes remain heavily impacted. The Chalus road is experiencing south-to-north congestion between Zangoleh Bridge and Siahbisheh, while the Haraz road shows heavy traffic near the Chalo junction. The Firuzkuh axis is also congested from south to north near Gilavand and Sefid Bridge. Additionally, the Taleghan-Hashtgerd route remains blocked between Taleghan Town and the Fashand-Ardeheh junction, and heavy traffic is noted on the Rasht-Qazvin and Tehran-Pardis freeways. In response to the summer travel return wave, the FARAJA Traffic Police have announced increased restrictions to manage rising volumes in provinces such as Khorasan Razavi, Qom, Fars, Gilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan. New measures include implementing one-way traffic on the Chalus road from Marzanabad toward Tehran, and a sectional north-to-south one-way system on the Haraz road between the Larijan station and Polur. The Rudbar-Manjil freeway may also implement north-to-south one-way traffic based on congestion levels. Authorities advise drivers to allow two to three times longer than usual By late September, new financial measures were introduced for travel the Tehran-North Freeway. Milad Dousti, deputy of construction and development at the Construction and Development of Transport Infrastructures Company, announced that holiday tolls will increase to prioritize road safety cover higher operational costs. During holidays, the one-way fee will rise to prevent fatigue-related accidents. 360,000 tomans, compared to 260,000 tomans on regular days. Dousti cited the high costs of maintaining smart infrastructure, such as tunnels and fire control sensors, and noted that approximately 7,000 billion tomans in tolls remain uncollected from electronic users.
