Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Real Madrid remains uncertain as he continues to struggle for regular playing time under manager José Mourinho. Since his free transfer from Liverpool in 2025, the 27-year-old has faced competition from Denzel Dumfries. In August 2026, Alexander-Arnold addressed the ongoing online abuse and social media threats he has received following his departure from Liverpool, noting that the digital vitriol has often “crossed the line” and affected his family. Despite this, he maintained that Liverpool will always have a “place in my heart.” His playing time has continued to diminish. During a recent 4-1 LaLiga victory over Sevilla, Mourinho opted to play midfielder Federico Valverde at right-back, leaving both Alexander-Arnold and Dumfries as unused substitutes. This marked the third time in five matches that the defender failed to start. Transfer speculation has intensified. While Real Madrid has dismissed rumors of an imminent departure, claiming he remains part of their long-term plans, several Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation. Arsenal continues to show interest in bolstering its defense, particularly at right-back, as the club manages fitness concerns regarding Ben White and Jurrien Timber. Meanwhile, reports have emerged regarding a potential shock return to Liverpool, with some suggesting a deal worth approximately €23 million could bring him back to Anfield. Chelsea has also been linked to the player, with reports suggesting manager Xabi Alonso would welcome the opportunity to work with him. Despite the interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold has reportedly remained focused on fighting for a starting position at the Santiago Bernabéu, with his contract running until June 2031. However, conflicting reports suggest Real Madrid may be open to selling him to generate profit, even as some reports indicate Liverpool has decided not to pursue a reunion at this time.
