Following the death of FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith in June 2025, various tributes have been established to honor his legacy and his role in pioneering the overnight express delivery industry. Memphis International Airport has been officially renamed Frederick W. Smith International ~~Airport.~~ Airport by the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. This dedication recognizes Smith’s role in transforming Memphis into a global logistics hub since founding Federal Express in 1973. To commemorate this, FedEx unveiled a Boeing 777F freighter named ‘Rosie’, featuring a retro purple-and-orange livery inspired by the company’s original 1970s ~~branding. The aircraft, named ‘Rosie’,~~ branding, which performed a ceremonial landing at the renamed airport. Additional tributes include the launch of the inaugural FWS Day of Service, a global annual volunteer ~~program, and~~ program. This initiative was part of a ‘global Purple Week’ featuring over 120 volunteer events. Other commemorations include the unveiling of a mural near the airport composed of FedEx aircraft ~~tails.~~ tails, as well as a new mural in Memphis depicting Smith’s portrait.
