Turkey's satellite operator, Türksat, has successfully completed a major transition of television and radio services from the aging Türksat 3A satellite to newer, higher-capacity satellites in its fleet, including Türksat 4A, 5B, and 6A. The migration, which took place during the night of August 15–16, 2026, involved the simultaneous transfer of approximately 1,000 frequencies and parameters. This covered a total of 573 television and 215 radio channels. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the “high-precision engineering operation was completed without any service interruptions.” However, the massive scale of frequency changes reportedly caused a domino effect where nearly all channel lists were reset, leading some viewers to encounter “No Signal” or “Channel Not Found” errors. Because the replacement satellites occupy the same 42° E orbital slot as Türksat 3A, viewers were not required to re-aim their dish antennas. For technical updates, devices equipped with the Türksat Channel Update System (TKGS) received automatic channel lists. However, owners of older receivers lacking TKGS support may still need to perform a manual channel scan using specific frequency parameters (such as 12380 MHz or 12423 MHz) to maintain access. Some older SD-only receivers may face challenges as the industry shifts toward HD standards. The decommissioning of Türksat 3A, which has been in service since 2008, aims to improve broadcast quality, increase capacity for 4K and Ultra HD content, and provide improved signal strength to mitigate weather-related interference. ~~This transition follows previous expectations that major national channels would move toward high-definition (HD) formats.~~ Looking forward, work continues on the Türksat 7A project, which is expected to be in service by 2029.
