Legal challenges by tribal nations, environmental groups and members of Congress continue, reviving debate over presidential authority to shrink monuments. The White House argues the cuts meet the Antiquities Act’s “smallest area compatible” requirement and open the lands to grazing, timber, hunting, fishing, mining and other uses.

Recreation and access remain contested. Officials clarified that existing off‑highway vehicle routes stay closed until revised under FLPMA, NEPA and the Endangered Species Act, while state hunting guides note that hunting and fishing were already permitted.
