Following Tunisia's ranking 85th in a global environmental index, the country launched a zero-waste project. Regional authorities have since implemented specific measures to improve urban cleanliness and environmental management. In Sousse, ~~officials~~ Governor Sofiène Tanfouri introduced intelligent software to assist municipal secretaries with daily intervention reports and statistical assessments to adjust cleaning programs. Tanfouri has called for an inclusive approach involving elected officials, civil society, and the media to promote responsible environmental behavior. Recent operations in the Essaâda area of the Ezzouhour municipality saw the evacuation of approximately 35 metric tons of construction waste, involving the National Agency for Waste Management and multiple municipal teams from M’saken, Akouda, Chott Meriem, Sidi El Heni, Hammam Sousse, Messaadine, and Zaouia. In Tataouine, efforts have focused on technical solutions to stop illegal waste dumping from construction and demolition sites. Meanwhile, in Sfax, Governor Mohamed Hajri is overseeing urgent infrastructure works to improve water flow in high-risk areas such as the Sidi Salem and Maou valleys. These works, which include focus on the Bourguiba belt and the bus station, are intended to prevent water stagnation and traffic disruptions during the upcoming rainy season, with a completion deadline set for the end of August.
