In early July, hazelnut growers in Turkey’s Black Sea region voiced uncertainty over future purchase prices as production costs rose. Farmers in Düzce highlighted higher expenses for labor, irrigation and pest control, and expressed mistrust of Israeli‑origin pesticides used against the brown stink bug. The Ordu provincial agriculture authority began a large‑scale 2026 hazelnut yield survey covering 130,000 farmers at 400 sites, with results expected by 23 July. By late July, the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry had completed its own 2026 hazelnut harvest forecast after field surveys in 13 districts, involving university experts, the National Hazelnut Council and local industry groups. The report estimated around 50,000 growers in the province, underscored the crop’s strategic economic role, and was submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to inform market expectations and support Turkey’s export position. On 25 July, a joint commission chaired by the Eastern Black Sea Customs Office announced official harvest dates for Trabzon province: 8 August for low‑altitude orchards, 15 August for mid‑altitude and 24 August for high‑altitude sites. The same communication noted that producers in nearby Giresun have started roadside sales of fresh green hazelnuts at roughly 200 TL per kilogram and dried hazelnuts at about 350 TL per kilogram, offering buyers product before the formal harvest period. These dates aim to coordinate regional harvesting activities and provide clearer guidance to market participants.
