In early August 2026, Turkish authorities announced a series of international half‑marathon events aimed at boosting sports tourism. The first announcement detailed the 9th Bodrum Half Marathon (2‑4 October) and the International Çorlu Half Marathon (18 October), highlighting historic city routes and extensive support from ministries, municipalities and the Turkish Athletics Federation. Two days later, the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality revealed its own International Half Marathon and Sports Festival scheduled for 15‑16 August. The event, themed “2026 Eskişehir Year – I Run,” is supported by main sponsor ETİ Lifalif and features a 10-km race, a 21-km half marathon, a paralympic category, and a children’s run. The festival is expected to draw 2,465 participants from 13 to 14 countries, including the United States, Russia, Iran, and various European and African nations. Beyond racing, the two-day event at Sazova Science, Culture and Art Park will include yoga, pilates, zumba, and workshops to promote local cultural heritage and economic development. As the event approaches, organizers have finalized the schedule. On Saturday, August 15, the program begins with a sports festival featuring yoga, functional fitness, crossfit, pilates, and zumba workshops, followed by a children's race at 17:00 and DJ performances. The main competitions occur on Sunday, August 16, with the 21K half marathon starting at 08:00 and the 10K race at 08:15, concluding with an awards ceremony at 11:30. Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce noted the organization is expected to boost the local economy by benefiting hotels, restaurants, and local tradespeople. To accommodate the event, local authorities have announced significant transportation adjustments for August 15-16. Shuttle services will operate between the Bus Terminal, the Ulus Monument, and Sazova Park. On Sunday, August 16, major roads including Ulusal Egemenlik Boulevard, Atatürk Boulevard, and the Historic Odunpazarı Region will be closed to vehicle traffic from 07:00 to 11:30. Residents have been advised to use alternative routes and avoid parking on these streets to ensure emergency access to hospitals.
