Turkey is expanding its domestic aerospace and defense manufacturing capabilities through new satellite and aircraft projects. In early October 2026, TUSAŞ and ROKETSAN signed a contract for the HÜRSAT-2 project. This initiative aims to develop Turkey’s first mass-producible satellite family using a modular architecture. The HÜRSAT family includes electro-optical imaging models (HÜRSAT EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar models (HÜRSAT SAR) designed for low Earth orbit constellations. The HÜRSAT-1 optical-observation satellite is targeted for launch in mid-2027, with HÜRSAT-2 expected to launch aboard the ŞİMŞEK-1 vehicle in 2028–2029. Concurrently, production efforts have advanced in the aviation sector. Component-level assembly for the HÜRJET, a turbofan-powered advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft, has begun at the TOMTAŞ facilities in Kayseri. This development TOMTAŞ General Manager Ali Ekşi noted that the assembly of the TUSAŞ-designed HÜRJET marks a return to aircraft production historic cycle for the Kayseri site, which was originally established as Turkey’s first returning to aircraft factory production nearly a century after its 1926 founding. International cooperation has also emerged. At the IDA TÜRKİYE 2026 event in 1926. Ankara, Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün announced a strategic partnership with Spain regarding the HÜRJET. Under this agreement, TUSAŞ will produce initial versions of the aircraft, while a subsequent version will be developed in collaboration with Spanish subcontractors to serve local needs and NATO allies.
