Turkey’s electronic communications sector has seen substantial growth and technological advancement throughout late 2026. In the second quarter of 2026, investments in the sector rose by 86.9% year-on-year, totaling 55.6 billion lira. During this period, mobile subscribers reached 102.2 million and broadband internet subscribers reached 100.8 million. Machine-to-machine (M2M) subscriptions also grew by 36.4% to 15.2 million. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that Turkey leads European nations in average monthly mobile usage time. Following this growth, the deployment of 5G technology has accelerated. Since its mobile network launch in April 2026, the 5G subscriber base grew from 21 million to 47.6 million by the end of September. Minister Uraloğlu noted that the 5G auction involving three operators last year generated 3.534 billion dollars, exceeding expectations. The government intends to expand 5G services nationwide over the next two years to support digital transformation in sectors such as industry, health, and agriculture. To support further technological infrastructure and service quality, Türkiye plans to increase its information and communication program budget by 39 percent next year, raising it from approximately 23.3 billion lira to over 32.3 billion lira. Mobile subscriber numbers are projected to reach 103 million by the end of 2026 and 105 million next year. Additionally, mobile broadband penetration is expected to reach 94 percent this year and 96 percent next year, while the country aims to maintain its full score in the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index.
