Turkey free university counseling rollout expands

The free university-preference counseling drive for the YKS period, running from 29 July to 10 August 2026, has ~~expanded significantly~~ seen extensive municipal involvement across Turkey. Municipalities have deployed diverse resources to assist students: Üsküdar Municipality offered services at the Haluk Dursun Library, Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality held sessions at Piazza AVM, and Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi provided daily counseling at various shopping malls. Bağcılar Municipality established an advice stand in 15 July Democracy and Milli İrade Square. Istanbul’s Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) continues to operate centers in all 39 districts, staffed by 210 specialists. Other regional efforts include Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality’s daily sessions and Konak Municipality’s extended-hour library facilities. In Adıyaman, the municipality provided one-on-one guidance to 2,500 students through four centers, including the AKEM and various libraries. Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere noted the initiative specifically aims to support young people, including earthquake survivors, to prevent incorrect choices due to a lack of resources. ~~Universities~~ Hatay Metropolitan Municipality also expanded its support through Akademi Hatay, which provided 13 days of free guidance and government bodies remain active: Düzce University organized promotion days, while Kayseri University Rector Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Karamustafa highlighted approximately 70 job-guaranteed pre-college programs.
