The Turkish peace and resolution process, centered on the “Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration,” has faced recent scrutiny due to leaked documents. Abdullah Öcalan issued a handwritten statement through the DEM Party dismissing circulated meeting minutes as a “conspiracy” and “provocative actions” by opponents of the process, asserting that the attributed statements are untrue. Following these claims, Turkish security sources denied reports suggesting Öcalan would participate in newly established sub-commissions. While a Monitoring and Evaluation Board chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has formed four specific sub-commissions—covering Judicial and Legal Affairs, Monitoring and Detection, Social Adaptation and Integration, and Disarmament and Strategic Coordination—officials characterized online claims regarding Öcalan’s involvement as disinformation intended to sabotage the process. On August 24, the Monitoring and Evaluation Board held its first meeting following the enactment of the framework law regarding the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process. While security sources and the DEM Party have both denied recent social media reports and leaked documents claiming to be meeting minutes from İmralı, DEM Party official Mithat Sancar stated that Abdullah Öcalan is expected to play a “vital and central role” in the disarmament process, specifically within the Disarmament and Strategic Coordination sub-commission. Sancar noted that no formal decision has been made regarding an official call for the laying down of arms. The DEM Party further clarified that Öcalan remains at his current location in İmralı and that the framework law includes provisions relevant to Selahattin Demirtaş.
