Demonstrators displayed the last 30 lira they possessed and voiced frustration over inflation and rising expenses. A few days later, union leaders in Eskişehir echoed the same grievances, noting that pensioners were forced to seek second jobs or assistance to cover rent, medication, utilities and food. They condemned recent deductions from pension payments and called on the government and parliament to raise pension levels and stop punitive cuts, underscoring that millions of retirees across Turkey were living below the poverty line. By mid-August, the crisis expanded to Sinop, where retirees reported severe financial difficulties. Many noted that their monthly income is almost entirely consumed by housing costs, leaving little for food or utilities. Some individuals expressed a reliance on financial support from their children to survive. Participants in Sinop cited the rising cost of goods in local markets and the devaluation of the Turkish Lira as major contributors to the ongoing economic strain. By late August, the movement shifted toward increased organization and sustained protest. The Edirne Pensioners Association called for retirees to unite on a common platform to influence decision-makers, noting their limited union rights. In Izmir, members of the All Retirees Union held their 30th consecutive week of sit-in protests. Spokesperson Semra Süren criticized capital-oriented policies and the practice of applying raises based on base salaries, which she described as a loss of income. Protesters also noted that food expenses for a family of four have significantly outpaced minimum wage levels and criticized prioritizing defense spending over social welfare.
