As the 2026-2027 academic year begins in Turkey, national and regional authorities are implementing measures to manage security, transit, and infrastructure. On a national level, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi has directed security reinforcements across 81 provinces, including heightened patrols and the deployment of 31,000 school garden staff. To bolster safety, over 2,800 hand detectors have been procured for priority schools. Local implementation has intensified through district-level coordination. In Keşan, officials updated camera systems and introduced a three-stage action plan to monitor, refer, and intervene in cases of potential violence. In Gönen and Yerköy, authorities held meetings to mitigate traffic risks and ensure occupational health and safety. Large-scale inspections continue; in Çanakkale, the Gendarmerie inspected over 500 school vicinities and 402 abandoned buildings, while in Ankara, coordinated inspections of nearly 2,000 school shuttles and 1,380 workplaces led to the identification of 14 wanted individuals. In Adana, a massive operation involving over 800 security personnel and thousands of staff included background checks on 118,626 individuals and audits of 6,638 school service vehicles. Recent regional efforts have expanded to include specialized training and social awareness. In Samsun, programs in Vezirköprü and Havza focused on training school garden staff in security, child psychology, and communication. In Antalya, the ‘Gençlerle Beraberiz’ project aimed to strengthen ties between law enforcement and over 14,000 university students. Additionally, environmental and health initiatives have emerged, such as climate change projects in Isparta, zero-waste competitions in Yeşilyurt and Konya, and addiction awareness campaigns by Yeşilay in Kırıkkale and İzmir. Newer enforcement actions include large-scale checks in Balıkesir, where over 4,000 personnel inspected school service vehicles and conducted background checks on more than 12,000 individuals. In Erzurum, authorities have deployed specialized school law enforcement officers and coordination assistants to prevent unauthorized loitering near campuses.
