Turkey social media age verification regulations

Overview

Turkey is implementing new social media regulations designed to protect minors from digital risks. Under the rules, children under the age of 15 will be prohibited from accessing social media platforms. Users between the ages of 15 and 18 will be subject to specialized restrictions, including mandatory private account settings, the disabling of live streaming and infinite scrolling, and a ban on personalized advertising. Additionally, screenshot capabilities will be blocked for this age group.

Age verification will be managed through the e-Devlet system using a digital “age verification token.” This method is intended to inform platforms of a user’s age bracket without transferring sensitive personal data. The regulations are scheduled to take effect for all new accounts on November 1, 2026, while existing accounts must complete a phased verification process by March 31, 2027.

As the implementation date approaches, the Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM), under the Presidency's Communications Directorate, has issued specific warnings regarding cyber fraud. Scammers are reportedly using deceptive SMS, emails, and social media links containing messages such as “Your account will be closed” or “Verify your age immediately” to target personal and financial information. Authorities advise citizens to verify browser address bars and never share e-Devlet passwords, SMS verification codes, or credit card details with any individual or institution.
