Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are advancing several large-scale infrastructure and economic cooperation projects under a 2026 agreement. In September 2026, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced the launch of the Yeni Atatürk Stadium and Multi-Purpose Sports Complex. This UEFA Category 4 facility is designed to include sustainable features like solar energy and rainwater harvesting, and is intended to serve as a disaster gathering area. Additionally, plans were announced for a new student dormitory in Nicosia with a capacity for 2,500 students, supported by an initial 130 million TL allocation. By October 2026, the focus of cooperation expanded to the healthcare sector. Vice President Yılmaz inaugurated the new Girne State Hospital and the Güzelyurt State Hospital. Supported by 1.514 billion TL allocated to health under the ongoing economic agreement, the Girne facility includes 146 beds and five operating rooms, supplemented by medical equipment and beds provided by Turkey. Prime Minister Üstel noted that these healthcare developments, alongside social housing and road projects, are the results of continued cooperation with Turkey. Further details regarding the healthcare expansion indicate that the Girne facility is a 12,000-square-meter site featuring a 10-bed intensive care unit. Turkey’s contribution included 185 items of medical equipment and 125 patient beds. Looking ahead, the modernization plan includes the construction of the 343-bed Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital in Nicosia, which is expected to open in 2027, and the Pamuklu State Hospital, which is targeted for completion by the end of 2026.
