In late July 2026, Malatya’s metropolitan mayor Sami Er toured the Pütürge district to launch a large-scale agricultural irrigation programme, installing 250 km of pipelines, opening a new irrigation pool and planning dozens of additional pools to serve roughly 80,000 decares of farmland. A week later, the focus broadened to rural drinking-water supply across the country. Projects in Mersin’s Mut district doubled a storage tank’s capacity, a 4.2 million-lira pipe renewal was begun in Aydın’s Koçarlı neighbourhood, and water levels at Sakarya’s Sapanca Lake rose thanks to conservation work and new supplemental sources. The report also highlighted ongoing gaps in Konya’s Gölkaşı neighbourhood, where residents still lack piped water and sewage services. By early August 2026, progress continued in Mersin and Sakarya. In the Mut district, the Mersin Water and Sewerage Administration (MESKİ) doubled the drinking water capacity at Zeyker Yaylası by installing an additional 50-ton tank, reaching a total of 100 tons to support residents and summer visitors. In Sakarya, SASKİ reported that Sapanca Lake's water level rose to 29.90 meters—an 11-centimeter increase compared to the previous year. This rise is attributed to lake protection measures and the use of alternative sources like Mollaköy Pond, which helps sustain approximately 210,000 subscribers while reducing pressure on the lake. Further developments in August show continued regional activity. In Kırıkkale, successful borehole drilling was conducted in Yeniyapan village to provide water. Additionally, municipal efforts expanded to include pollution reduction and sewage management, such as cleaning operations in İzmir's Manda and Bostanlı streams to protect the Gulf of Izmir, and sewage line upgrades in Eskişehir's Emek neighborhood. In early August, the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality's water and sewage administration (MARSU) began a project in the Artuklu district to move open streams into a closed underground system.
