Turkish agricultural commodity pricing

Overview

In late 2026, Turkish agricultural organizations announced purchase prices for various crops for the upcoming production cycle.

The Söke TARİŞ Cotton Cooperative set the 2026-2027 cotton purchase price at 102 TL per kilogram, citing global market trends, exchange rates, and rising producer costs. President İsmail Özer noted the decision aimed to protect producers from market volatility.

Following this, Türkiye Şeker Fabrikaları A. Ş. (TÜRKŞEKER) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry established the 2026-2027 sugar beet purchase price at 3,720 TL per ton, including a 4% quota completion premium. This rate was determined through consensus between sugar companies and producer representatives under the Sugar Law.

However, the sugar beet pricing has faced widespread criticism from farmers and agricultural cooperatives in regions including Sivas, Eskişehir, Erzincan, and Ereğli. Producers argue the rate is insufficient to cover sharply rising costs for diesel fuel, fertilizer, irrigation, labor, and transportation. Agricultural representatives, such as the Odunpazarı Chamber of Agriculture and the Erzincan Sugar Beet Growers Cooperative, have warned that production may decline if prices are not revised.

In Eskişehir, the Eskişehir Genç Rençberler Association has launched a signature campaign demanding the price per ton be increased to at least 4,500 TL. Association President Burak Kuşan stated that the current 20% annual increase fails to keep pace with the costs of seeds, fertilizer, and fuel. Political figures, including YENİ Party Deputy Chairman Utku Çakırözer, have supported these demands, calling for VAT and Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) exemptions on diesel and fertilizer to alleviate the financial burden on farmers.
