Turkish agricultural production and export trends

Overview

Turkey has completed its winter cereal and legume harvest. While spring rains helped mitigate drought, high summer temperatures and regional rainfall shortages in areas such as Central Anatolia and Marmara are expected to cause yield losses for dry-seeded crops.

Following these harvests, grain production is showing a significant recovery. Wheat production is projected to reach 24.5 million tons and barley 10 million tons, marking a 44% increase from the previous year. To support food security, the Turkish Grain Board has purchased a record 12.3 million tons of grain, bringing total stocks to 17.5 million tons.

On the trade front, Turkey maintains its position as the global leader in flour exports and ranks second in pasta exports. Additionally, officials are addressing domestic supply chain issues, specifically the high price disparity between farm-gate and retail costs caused by harvesting, transportation, and storage expenses.
