Turkish Council of Judges and Prosecutors activities
Overview
The Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has engaged in both field inspections and regulatory changes within the Turkish judiciary.
Initially, an HSK delegation conducted a working visit to the Erzurum Courthouse, inspecting various courts and meeting with local judicial officials to discuss professional development, ethics, and service efficiency.
Subsequently, the HSK issued new regulations via the Official Gazette to redistribute judicial workloads. These mandates require deputy chief prosecutors and chief prosecutors at criminal courts of first instance to participate directly in judicial tasks, such as handling investigation files. Previously focused on administrative roles, these officials will now be assigned specific percentages of the average workload based on the number of prosecutors in their jurisdiction. Justice Minister and HSK President Akın Gürlek stated the objective is to leverage the experience of senior prosecutors to ensure investigations are completed within reasonable timeframes.
