Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has engaged in a series of diplomatic meetings focused on regional security and bilateral cooperation. The discussions centered on deepening defense cooperation and joint military exercises between Turkey and Azerbaijan. Fidan expressed support for Azerbaijan’s efforts toward a peace agreement with Armenia, suggesting such a deal would foster regional energy and trade development. He also addressed broader security concerns, including the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on Black Sea stability and the necessity of maintaining free passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In a follow-up visit to Baku, Fidan met with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Bayramov to further solidify what he described as an alliance-level relationship. The leaders discussed expanding defense and security cooperation through industrial partnerships and set a trade target of 15 billion dollars. Fidan warned that the expansion of the Russia-Ukraine conflict into the Black Sea is “unacceptable” and threatens civilian maritime safety, noting that Turkey is making diplomatic proposals to prevent further escalation. Additionally, Fidan reaffirmed support for the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and highlighted the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway as a vital component of the Middle Corridor for international connectivity.
