Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conducted a series of high-level diplomatic missions to address regional stability, security, and bilateral cooperation. In Baghdad, Fidan met with Iraqi leadership to discuss energy, regional connectivity, the Development Road project, and counter-terrorism efforts. His discussions included the disarmament of certain armed groups and strategic synergies between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the Middle Corridor. Following these meetings, Fidan traveled to Brussels to engage with NATO and the European Union. Discussions Accompanied by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, Fidan utilized the 3+3 platform to discuss cooperation across foreign affairs, justice, and internal security. During meetings with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas Kallas, discussions covered Turkey-NATO relations, the Russia-Ukraine war, energy security in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, and Black Sea grain transit. The mission also addressed maritime jurisdiction agreements involving Libya and sought to strengthen economic and social ties through meetings with business and civil society leaders. In a subsequent summit in Istanbul, Fidan announced that eight nations reached a consensus on the necessity of diplomacy to end conflicts in the Gulf and Ukraine. Following meetings involving the R4 group (Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia), the E3 European group (United Kingdom, Germany, and France), and Italy, officials addressed security concerns including potential conflict involving Iran, Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, and Israel’s role in destabilizing Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria. The ministers also highlighted the impact of maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb strait, alongside Black Sea navigation security, on global energy, food security, and free trade.
