The Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services has announced an allocation of approximately 2 billion lira to Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations (SYDV) to assist students for the first term of the 2026-2027 academic year. Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş stated that the funding is intended to support students from low-income households by covering various educational necessities, including school uniforms, stationery, footwear, and winter clothing. For students living away from their families and not covered by the mobile education system, the ministry provides support for meals, housing, and transportation, including a program offering four annual travel tickets (two round trips). Furthermore, the funding supports students preparing for high school and university entrance exams by providing necessary study materials, as well as those participating in sporting activities and excursions. Minister Göktaş noted that since 2021, approximately 6 billion lira has been transferred to SYDVs to support student education needs. The ministry aims to increase the effectiveness of these aid programs to reach a larger number of students and alleviate the financial burden on families.
