Investigations into organized crime in Turkey have expanded from individual drug trafficking cases to broader networks involving human trafficking and prostitution. In early August, the 12th Heavy Penal Court in Adana sentenced defendant Y.A. to 12 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of 125,000 Turkish lira for drug trafficking in the Seyhan district. During this period, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated a combined investigation into drug-related activities and a prostitution network, following digital evidence suggesting connections between Ankara and Gaziantep. By mid-August, the Ankara investigation intensified, focusing on five specific entertainment venues in the Çankaya district: Şımarık, Bişkek, Söğütdalı, Art Cafe/Bar, and Sindoma. Authorities identified 28 suspects, including owners and employees, allegedly involved in human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and the promotion of prostitution. The investigation revealed that suspects targeted foreign women fleeing war or economic hardship with false promises of legitimate employment, instead forcing them into roles as hostesses or sex workers. On August 18, 2026, coordinated operations by the Ankara and Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices targeted both the Çankaya venues and daily rental houses in Etimesgut. In Çankaya, the operation led to the detention of 26 suspects and the identification of 15 foreign female victims. In Etimesgut, investigators uncovered 50 separate criminal acts involving the use of rental houses for prostitution, resulting in the detention of 18 suspects, six of whom were ~~arrested.~~ arrested and four placed under judicial control. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated that the government will not tolerate organizations that exploit the vulnerability of women for illicit profit and will continue to take decisive legal action.
