Turkish insurance sector performance

Overview

S&P Global Ratings projected that Turkey’s property and casualty insurance market would maintain strong profitability, with returns on equity expected to stay above 30% over a two-year period. Despite high inflation and currency volatility, the sector demonstrated resilience through inflation-indexed and foreign currency-denominated policies.

Data from the Insurance Association of Turkey later showed that total premium production reached 1 trillion 97 billion 137.4 million lira during the first nine months of the year, a 28% nominal increase compared to the previous year. While non-life insurance comprised 83.7% of this total, the sector experienced a real contraction of 1.3% when adjusted for inflation. Within the non-life segment, land vehicle liability was the largest contributor, followed by health, sickness, fire, and natural disasters.
