Turkish municipal cycling and sustainability initiatives

Overview

During late September 2026, various municipalities and associations in Turkey organized cycling events to promote sustainable transportation and healthy lifestyles in observance of European Mobility Week and World Unmotorized Vehicle Week.

In Mersin, the Metropolitan Municipality held a ‘Pedal Safely from Home to School’ event for students to highlight bicycle infrastructure. In Bursa, officials participated in the 18th Tophane-Nilüfer-Mudanya Bicycle Tour to promote zero-carbon emissions. Additionally, a 100-kilometer tour between Bitlis and Muş was conducted by several clubs and the Green Crescent (Yeşilay) to promote healthy living and raise awareness against addiction.

Expanding the scope of cycling activities, the Keşan Nature, Environment and Culture Association (DOÇEK) completed a cultural cycling tour titled ‘5B: Bozkır-Bağlama-Bozlak-Bektaşilik-Bisiklet.’ This route connected historical and cultural landmarks across Kırşehir, Nevşehir, Yozgat, Kayseri, and Sivas.
