Turkish municipalities continue to implement various initiatives to improve the welfare and medical care of stray animals through mobile services and large-scale infrastructure projects. In Bursa, the Yıldırım Municipality’s ‘PATİVET’ mobile veterinary service has treated 1,222 animals since its 2025 launch. Additionally, the Nilüfer Municipality has opened the ‘Umut Ağacı’ Natural Life and Adoption Center in Karacaoba. This 49,500-square-meter facility is designed to provide a natural environment for approximately 3,000 animals and features 10 independent sections for treatment, vaccination, and rehabilitation. Infrastructure expansion is also progressing in other regions. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is developing a 30,000-square-meter natural living area within the PAKO campus for 2,500 dogs, while also operating a licensed facility to produce animal feed, with a target of 1 ton daily. In Antalya, the Kirişçiler Stray Animal Temporary Care and Rehabilitation Center has reached a capacity of 5,700 animals, including 5,000 dogs and 700 cats, managed by a staff of 105, including 22 veterinarians. New developments in Ordu see the Altınordu Municipality opening the ‘Patiköy Natural Life Area’ in Yeşilköy. This 2,500-square-meter site utilizes four paddocks to host up to 200 animals in a natural setting. Meanwhile, in Kocaeli, the İzmit Municipality is nearing completion of the ‘Dost Pati Life Area’ on 75 acres of leased land. This facility will feature free-roaming areas, operating theaters, and specialized sections for nursing mothers. By 2026, these regional efforts have increasingly focused on expanding animal care services to meet changing legal requirements for the safe housing and medical management of stray populations. Other ongoing efforts include Yozgat Municipality’s ‘Evcil Köy’ natural living area, Milas Municipality’s shelter construction, and educational awareness programs such as health checks and vaccinations conducted by students at GKV Private Schools in Gaziantep.
