Turkish political leaders have expressed varying perspectives regarding the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process and the requirements for achieving regional stability. AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler and Deputy Mustafa Şen have detailed the strategic and legal components of the initiative. Speaking in Malatya, Güler emphasized that achieving a ‘terror-free region’ is vital to national security, noting that stability in neighboring countries such as Syria, Iraq, and Iran is essential. He announced that the ‘Law on Strengthening National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Social Integration’ was enacted on August 10. Güler clarified that legal provisions are contingent upon the complete surrender of weapons and the cessation of organizational activities, as verified by security institutions. He reiterated that these measures do not constitute a general amnesty, as serious crimes like intentional murder remain excluded. Güler identified the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as the ‘third eye’ of the process to ensure parliamentary oversight alongside a commission led by the Vice President. Mustafa Şen added that the objective is to eliminate terror potential both domestically and across the broader region. In Diyarbakır, Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan called for the immediate liquidation of terrorist organizations and the surrender of weapons to establish peace. While stating that his party supports processes fostering unity and brotherhood, Erbakan expressed a preference for such significant decisions to be decided by the people through a referendum rather than through political negotiations. Expanding on these efforts, the Turkish Cabinet, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is scheduled to meet at Beştepe to address the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process. A scheduled meeting on October 26 will evaluate the current status of operations to eliminate terrorist organizations and discuss the potential surrender of weapons. This session will specifically focus on intelligence reports regarding disarmament and the establishment of a monitoring commission within Parliament.
