Turkish political parties, including the Good Party (İYİ Parti) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), scheduled various political events in August 2026. The MHP announced its 15th ordinary congress in Kayseri, while the İYİ Parti planned a rally in Balıkesir focused on national unity and anti-terrorism. Following these announcements, İYİ Parti leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu conducted a large-scale flag rally in Balıkesir. During his address to thousands of supporters, Dervişoğlu criticized the current political system, alleging that the country has been taken hostage by a structure centered at the Beştepe Palace. He specifically targeted the use of trustees (kayyum) and the pressure exerted on mayors, politicians, the judiciary, and the media. On August 16, 2026, Dervişoğlu led a further large-scale rally at Balıkesir’s Kuvayı Milliye Square to protest the recently passed “Framework Law” (Milli Dayanışma ve Toplumsal Bütünleşmenin Güçlendirilmesine Dair Kanun Teklifi). This legislation aims to end the presence of the PKK/KCK terrorist organization and manage weapon surrenders by allowing for the postponement of certain investigations and sentences following a National Security Council decision. Characterizing the political climate as a transition from a “personal regime to a personal state,” Dervişoğlu described the law as a threat to “betrayal” of the republic Republic. He alleged the legislative process involves a coalition between President Erdoğan, Devlet Bahçeli, and Abdullah Öcalan, warning of the nation. His speech also included criticisms erosion of national identity. While some view the government’s economic performance and accusations that law as a path toward peace, groups such as the leadership is attempting to marginalize Parliament and undermine public trust in democratic institutions. Turkish Nationalist Lawyers Group have called for a Constitutional Court challenge, alleging it threatens the nation-state structure.
