Social services in Turkey have focused on enhancing support and engagement for the elderly through both state oversight and municipal initiatives. Provincial social services officials conducted inspections of elderly care and rehabilitation centers in Mersin and Bayburt. These visits involved meeting with residents to hear direct feedback regarding their daily lives and specific needs, as well as consulting with staff on service quality and work ethics. Concurrently, municipalities have expanded social infrastructure for retirees. In Istanbul, the Maltepe Municipality established the ‘Emekli Dayanışma Evi’ (Retiree Solidarity House) to provide social spaces and low-cost food. In Kayseri, the Metropolitan Municipality launched several ‘Emekliler Kafeteryası’ (Retirees' Cafeteria) locations featuring libraries and social areas, alongside the YADES program, which supports low-income individuals over age 65 in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. Recent municipal efforts have further emphasized community engagement and combating isolation. The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality organized a social outing for members of its Retiree Houses at Kumkuyu Public Beach, featuring swimming, music, and activities intended to encourage social participation. Additionally, in Edirne, the municipality is preparing to open the Vefa Edirne Retiree House in the Fatih neighborhood, designed to serve as a social hub for cultural activities and friendship building among retired citizens.
