TV Republika settles most license debt via crowdfunding KRRiT payment

TV Republika has successfully concluded its crowdfunding campaign to cover unpaid terrestrial broadcasting license fees. Following an urgent appeal by presenter Miłosz Kłeczek, the station raised approximately 2.2 made a payment of 2.05 million PLN from its viewers. The fundraising drive, which included a special broadcast format and a studio picnic for supporters, saw roughly 29,000 viewers contribute within a nine-hour period on Sunday. Station president Tomasz Sakiewicz confirmed that the funds have been transferred to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), describing the rapid collection as a “historic success.” The campaign allowed covering 1.63 million PLN for its license and approximately 412,700 PLN in interest. Despite this transfer, the broadcaster station still owes roughly 200,000 PLN to settle the 1.78 million regulator, consisting of 150,600 PLN installment in remaining license fees and the 258,500 38,000 PLN prolongation fee that had missed a September 1 deadline. This development follows warnings from in interest. KRRiT spokesperson Anna Ostrowska noted that failure to pay could have resulted in license fees are treated as “quasi-tax public dues,” meaning the seizure of bank accounts or Tax Ordinance applies to these payments. The interest was calculated from the loss original deadline of September 1, 2024, through September 7, 2026.
