Two-wheeler market developments in Asia

Overview

In mid-September 2026, manufacturers in Malaysia and China introduced new two-wheeler models. Modenas released an updated Z15GT manual motorcycle in Malaysia, featuring technical improvements under a durability programme designed for tropical climates. Simultaneously, the Sundiro Honda joint venture in China launched the NS125FX urban scooter, which included a limited edition Gundam SEED co-branded version. By late September, the focus shifted to the Chongqing International Motorcycle Exhibition (CIMA 2026) in China. At the event, Honda showcased limited edition versions of its NSS350 and ADV350 maxi-scooters, each restricted to 1,000 units and featuring Eastern artistic graphics. The ADV350 was presented with an adventure aesthetic, including a 155mm ground clearance and a 4-stage adjustable windscreen, while the NSS350 emphasized urban elegance with an electrically adjustable windscreen. Additionally, the Zongshen Group brand Cyclone unveiled the RT450 touring maxi-scooter, a model featuring a 398cc parallel-twin engine producing 42.24 horsepower, intended to compete with Japanese and European manufacturers. During the expo, Honda also announced technological upgrades for the Rebel 250 and Rebel 500 models. These motorcycles will transition from LCD systems to a 3.6-inch full-color TFT instrument panel, incorporating a second-generation Honda RoadSync system capable of providing “full map navigation rather than just turn-by-turn directions.” Following the exhibition, Honda and the Sundiro Honda joint venture expanded their offerings across Asian markets. Honda Motors released the ADV350 and NSS350 Limited Edition models, which utilize an eSP+ 330 cc engine and feature a 7-inch TFT color display with the Honda RoadSync system. To mark its 25th anniversary, Sundiro Honda introduced a “25th Anniversary Collector’s Limited Edition” series, including the Freedom Today 50, NS125LA, and NS150LA. The venture also debuted the NS125RX in China, a sporty 125 cc scooter featuring a “Crack Blade” design, dual LED headlights, and dual-channel ABS.
