On 24 July 2026 Greece confirmed its lead at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Duisburg, adding four golds and two silvers to the medal table. The men’s lightweight double sculls (Andreas Hatzigeorgiou & Andreas Bourkas) won in 6:29.26, while the women’s double sculls (Meleena Kountou & Elena Diaviti) edged Poland by 0.69 seconds in 6:59.14. In the newly introduced mixed double scull, Kountou paired with Konstantinos Giannoulis for a 6:34.26 gold. Silver medals went to Angelos Athanasidis Kaoudi in the lightweight single and Nikos Chovolopoulos in the men’s single scull, leaving Greece atop the standings. The overall medal table placed Greece first overall, ahead of the United States and Great Britain, after the team secured an additional gold in the lightweight women’s double scull (Paschalia Mouratou & Gabriela Lioliou). The mixed double‑scull victory marked the event’s first ever gold. The following day, 25 July, Romanian rowers reached the A finals, with the men’s double‑scull crew taking bronze behind Greece and Australia. Additional Romanian boats placed within the top five in the fours and other double‑scull events, marking the nation’s strongest U23 rowing showing to date. Together the results highlight a dominant Greek performance and a deepening Romanian program at the Duisburg Under‑23 World Rowing Championships, underscoring Europe’s overall strength in the sport.
