UAE-Senegal water security cooperation
Overview
The United Arab Emirates and Senegal are collaborating to advance water security in Africa by converting high-level pledges into actionable investment projects. This partnership aims to connect African national priorities with development finance institutions and innovators to strengthen project pipelines.
As part of this initiative, the two nations will co-host the 2026 UN Water Conference in Abu Dhabi from December 8–10, 2026. Preparations for the event include the opening of registration for ‘The Oasis’, a public zone intended to facilitate technology exchange and practical water action alongside the official UN-accredited Blue Zone.
During the Africa Water & Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium in Kigali, officials emphasized that the focus must shift from setting ambitions to ensuring implementation. The upcoming conference is expected to convene governments and technical experts to accelerate the sustainable management of water and sanitation in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 6.
