Discussions regarding caregiving responsibilities at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMex) have transitioned from academic discourse to formal institutional policy. Initially, a UN Women expert, Alejandra d'Hyver de las Deses Breña, addressed the university to advocate for a ~~“Local~~ ‘Local Care Agenda: Towards a Co-responsible ~~Society.”~~ Society.’ She emphasized the need to challenge gender stereotypes and ensure caregivers have rights to rest, autonomy, and health. Following these discussions, UAEMex, led by Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado, launched its Institutional Policy for the Caregiving ~~University.~~ University (Universidad Cuidadora). This policy aims to integrate a caregiving ~~into~~ perspective across academic and administrative management to support students, faculty, and staff. The initiative specifically addresses the disproportionate caregiving burden on women, who make up 58 percent of the university community, by ~~mainstreaming caregiving across research,~~ making care a transversal element of teaching, research, and ~~institutional culture.~~ labor life to ensure these duties do not hinder professional or academic development. In conjunction with these efforts, the university is expanding its focus on gerontology to address the needs of an aging society. As part of recent National Gerontologist Day commemorations, the university announced that its Multidisciplinary Health Clinic will provide free gerontology consultations throughout September to offer specialized care to the population.
