The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) has undertaken several institutional initiatives focused on governance, community involvement, and educational expansion. The university hosted the First Meeting of the Ibero-American Network of Public Ethics, an event titled ‘Crisis of Values and Political Turbulence: Challenges for Good Governance.’ The meeting aimed to discuss the role of ethics in establishing transparent institutions. During the event, Jorge Alejandro Vásquez Caicedo, Secretary of University Governance, noted that academic networks allow for sharing research to train public servants, while Celso Rodrigo Rivera Rojo, Director of Academic Environments, stated that public ethics must be a daily practice to guide decision-making. UAEMéx launched its first participatory budget mechanism, ‘Tu Voz, Tu Presupuesto’ (Your Voice, Your Budget), for the 2026 cycle. Allocating 55 million pesos, the initiative allows students, faculty, and administrative staff to vote via the Ágora Digital TUAEMéx platform for projects involving equipment acquisition and facility maintenance. By the end of the voting period, more than 57,000 students participated, representing over 52 percent of the university community. Selected projects will focus on academic classroom equipment, common areas, and coexistence spaces. To expand educational coverage, the university implemented its Digital Baccalaureate program, enrolling an initial cohort of 532 students. Additionally, the University Council approved the designation of Bordo ‘Las Maravillas’ as a Protected Natural Area under the ‘Water Sanctuary’ category. The institution also published a new Scholarship, Support, and Stimulus Regulation, allowing students to simultaneously access one scholarship, one support, and one stimulus if compatibility criteria are met. During the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez called for increased coordination between the state government and the university to address regional issues, including mental health, water management, violence against women, and animal protection.
