During the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada, Spanish cyclist Héctor Álvarez secured multiple medals in the under-23 categories. Álvarez first won the bronze medal in the under-23 men’s individual time trial, finishing 11 seconds behind winner Matisse Van Kerckhove of Belgium. In the U23 men’s road race, American cyclist Ashlin Barry won the world title following a solo performance where he maintained a lead for the final 30 kilometers. Barry Celebrating his 19th birthday, Barry, who rides for the Visma | Lease a Bike development team, finished 53 seconds ahead of the chasing group. The 174.2-kilometer race featured a demanding circuit, including the Côte Camillien-Houde climb. Álvarez secured the silver medal by winning the sprint within that chasing group, marking his second podium finish at the championships. Norwegian Jesper Stiansen took the bronze medal. The championships also saw success for other Spanish riders, including Benjamín Noval, who won gold medals in both the junior men’s time trial and road race categories.
