In August 2026, several food recalls were issued across the United Kingdom due to bacterial contamination concerns. Initially, manufacturer Greencore recalled three types of pasta salads sold at Asda and Morrisons following potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Morrisons reported that listeria was identified in ingredients used for its chicken and bacon pasta. The Food Standards Agency described the recall as a precaution. Later in the month, the Food Standards Agency issued further “do not eat” warnings involving multiple retailers, including Tesco, Waitrose, and Home Bargains. These alerts included a recall of Macroom Buffalo Cheese Products' Mozzarella and Bocconcini in Northern Ireland due to Listeria contamination. Specifically, the 125g Mozzarella and 160g Bocconcini products, which carry a use-by date of September 7, 2026, were flagged. Consumers were advised not to consume the cheese even if it appears or smells normal and to return it to the retailer for a full refund. Additionally, various filled wraps were recalled due to potential E. coli contamination identified during routine testing. In September 2026, Waitrose issued an urgent “do not eat” warning for 120g packs of Waitrose Essential Pitted Black Olives due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products carry use-by dates of September 13, September 18, and September 27, 2026. The Food Standards Agency confirmed that point-of-sale notices would be displayed in stores to inform customers.
