The 30th‑anniversary Green Flag Awards continue to recognise excellence across the United Kingdom. Following the July 13 announcements from Grantham and Ramsgate, a national report on July 14 confirmed a record 330 Welsh sites – 93 full Green Flags, 237 Community Awards and three new Green Heritage Site accreditations such as Caldicot Castle. On July 16, Wales celebrated additional community achievements. Volunteers at Aberporth Village Hall received a Green Flag Community Award, highlighted for visitor facilities and local involvement, while the Ynysymaengwyn Trust secured its fifteenth consecutive full Green Flag, praised for safety, maintenance and environmental management. In England, councils reported further wins: Sandwell’s Britannia Park was the sole new flag among 17 borough sites; Knowsley’s Old Rough Park and York’s Hull Road Park also earned flags; Nottingham City Council celebrated a comeback with ten new flags and five heritage accreditations. Leeds City Council announced seven parks – Middleton, Golden Acre, Kirkstall Abbey, Otley Chevin, Pudsey, Roundhay and Temple Newsam – joining a record‑breaking 2,391 UK sites awarded this year. West Bridgford’s Bridgford Park received its first Green Flag, highlighted for historic gardens and community‑led improvements. On July 18, Sharphill Wood, a 10‑hectare mixed broadleaf woodland near Edwalton co‑managed by Rushcliffe Borough Council, the Friends of Sharphill Wood and the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, earned its fourth consecutive flag, with Cllr Jonathan Wheeler saying the council was “delighted to raise the Green Flag once again.” Leazes Park in Newcastle retained its flag for a second year, despite ongoing debate over a proposed stadium on the site. On July 26, further recognitions were announced. Cheltenham in England received eight Green Flag awards for its parks, with Burrow’s Field in Leckhampton winning the accolade for the first time.
