The UK government has implemented multiple measures to assist households with energy costs and transitions. Initially, approximately Approximately 6 million households receiving means-tested benefits were are scheduled to receive confirmation letters regarding for a £150 Warm Home Discount for the winter season. Following this, upcoming winter. The notification process begins in late October 2026 and continues through January 2027. Recipients must check if the government introduced discount is applied automatically or if they must contact a helpline by 26 February 2027. To facilitate clean energy transitions, the Warm Homes Loan scheme to facilitate the installation of clean energy technologies. This program provides no-interest or low-interest loans for equipment technologies such as solar panels, battery storage, and various heat pump systems, with loan pumps. Loan limits ranging range from £15,000 for solar and batteries to £35,000. Additionally, £35,000 for ground-source heat pumps. Participating lenders include Tandem Bank, British Gas, and E.On. In a new development, the Labour government announced a £100 Household Energy Payment for approximately 80% of households in England within council tax bands A through D, starting in January. This £2.6 billion initiative is accompanied by an extension of the electricity VAT cut until July 2027, the abolition of gas standing charges, and the scrapping of the hydrogen levy. These reforms are funded by a temporary increase in the Bank Corporation Tax Surcharge from 3% to 6% between January 2027 and March 2028. Critics have noted that tying payments to council tax bands may disproportionately benefit wealthy residents while missing less affluent households. A separate Debt Relief Scheme is expected to launch in the spring to address an estimated £2.47 billion in energy debt accumulated by households during the 2022–2024 energy crisis.
