UK solar and energy storage industry developments

Overview

During the Solar & Storage Live UK 2026 exhibition in Birmingham, various companies presented technological advancements and strategic partnerships aimed at the UK solar market.

Initially, firms such as Tigo Energy and Suntech showcased innovations, including Tigo Energy’s module-level power electronics designed to recover energy lost to shading and Suntech’s high-efficiency N-type photovoltaic solutions.

Following these presentations, Suntech and Alternergy announced a strategic cooperation agreement to combine manufacturing with local distribution expertise for the UK and Ireland. Discussions at the event also identified systemic challenges for the UK solar sector, specifically regarding large-scale projects. While planning consent processes have improved, developers continue to face difficulties with financial close, revenue visibility, and a shortage of engineering talent required for network connections.
