Ukraine continues to strengthen its air defense through international cooperation and pilot training. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited the International Air Warfare College in Canada to meet with pilots training on modern combat aircraft, including F-16s and Gripens. Recent reinforcements include an agreement for Belgium to transfer three F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of 2024, supported by urgent ammunition deliveries from Belgium and Spain. Ukraine has also received new missiles for the NASAMS ~~system~~ system, provided by the United States and Norway, and is developing prototypes to counter jet-powered Shahed drones. Operational data from the Ukrainian Air Force indicates that F-16 pilots have intercepted over 3,150 Russian targets, specifically 666 cruise missiles and approximately 2,500 UAVs, since the aircraft entered service. Additionally, the F-16s have conducted more than 650 strikes against ground targets. To support future development, Ukrainian officials have met with Lockheed Martin to discuss combat experience, available armament, and the potential transition to more advanced F-16 Block 70/72 models. However, officials noted that limited stocks of air-to-air missiles continue to influence tactical decisions and interception methods. Discussions are ongoing to secure additional Patriot missile supplies to counter Russian ballistic missiles.
