Ukraine military integration of unmanned ground vehicles
Overview
The Ukrainian military is integrating unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) into its frontline operations to mitigate numerical disadvantages and reduce risks to personnel. Units are developing various robotic systems, such as the ‘Hienas’ model, which are four-wheeled vehicles capable of carrying explosive payloads to attack positions or halt infantry.
Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi of the Third Army Corps has characterized this integration of robotic technology as a ‘revolution’ in warfare. As the battlefield becomes more saturated with drones, the military is expanding its unmanned systems to include these ground-based units to conduct ‘smarter’ warfare by replacing infantry in high-risk roles.
