Ukraine military operations during Independence Day

Overview

During Ukraine’s 35th Independence Day celebrations, Ukrainian forces conducted extensive operations targeting Russian military and economic assets.

Initial reports noted waves of attacks coinciding with the holiday, including Ukrainian efforts to target a major Russian e-commerce entity.

Following these reports, the Ukraine Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) detailed striking 66 targets across Russia and occupied territories during overnight operations. USF Commander Robert Brovdi stated that the strikes successfully hit a MiG-29 fighter jet, four radar systems, an Ozon logistics center, and various energy facilities.

In occupied regions including Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk, 11 temporary deployment points were reportedly destroyed. Additional strikes targeted a SOBR special forces position in the Kherson region and energy infrastructure. In the Black Sea, the USF claimed to have destroyed a Russian tanker and a bulk carrier ship belonging to Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’.

Amidst these ongoing attacks, Nordic leaders have arrived in Kyiv for the independence festivities. The visiting delegation includes Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, with Swedish participation also expected.
