In late July 2026 two viral rumors targeting Ukrainian officials were debunked as false. A parody X account claimed First Lady Olena Zelenska had fled with €66 million in cash, gold and jewellery, while a satire‑focused Telegram channel attributed to adviser Mykhailo Podolyak a statement that Ukraine would replace the United States in defending Taiwan. Both claims were disproved, underscoring ongoing Russian‑linked disinformation efforts. On 5 August 2026 Ukraine’s anti‑corruption agencies opened a criminal case against former ambassador to the United States Olha Stefanishyna, dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky on 3 August. The National Anti‑Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti‑Corruption Prosecutor’s Office allege illicit enrichment of about 13.9 million hryvnia, citing undeclared Kyiv apartments, cash used for renovations, airline tickets, rent on a third flat and a Mercedes registered to a subordinate.
