Overview
Ukraine has begun developing ballistic missiles with a range of approximately 500 km capable of reaching Moscow. Following an interception of a Ukrainian missile near the Russian capital on 1 July, Russia has faced pressure to redirect its S-400 air-defense units from ground-attack roles to intercepting high-speed ballistic threats.
In response to shortages of interceptor missiles for systems like the Patriot, the Ukrainian military has shifted its strategy toward targeting ballistic missile launchers within Russian territory, specifically Iskander-M and North Korean KN-23 systems in the Kursk and Bryansk regions. This tactical shift coincides with reports of Ukrainian ground gains in the Kupiansk region, where units have regained control of several forest complexes and parts of Zapadne.
