Ukrainian tennis players Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk have seen success during the 2026 US Open. In the opening rounds, ninth seed Svitolina secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Solana Sierra, a dominant performance that lasted just 52 minutes and marked a recovery from an early first-round exit at Wimbledon. This victory represented Svitolina’s 42nd win of the season and brings her total to 117 Major wins, the highest total for a Ukrainian player in the Open Era. Meanwhile, 11th seed Kostyuk defeated Storm Hunter 6-4, 6-1 in 67 minutes, recording eight aces and 22 winners. Both Svitolina and Kostyuk are among the notable winners who have advanced through the opening rounds of the tournament, joining other top seeds such as Aryna ~~Sabalenka~~ Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and ~~Elena Rybakina~~ Coco Gauff in progressing to the second round. Sabalenka defeated Camila Osorio 6-2, 6-4, while Swiatek secured a straight-sets victory over Xiyu Wang (6-2, 6-3), and Gauff defeated Sonmez 6-3, 6-4. Svitolina also competed in the mixed doubles tournament alongside Gael Monfils. The pair advanced to the semifinals after defeating Alex Eala and Felix Auger-Aliassime, followed by a victory over the top-ranked duo, Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten. Svitolina noted that their success was due to “natural chemistry and ability to understand each other’s moods and reactions.”
