The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has updated its database of companies linked to activities in Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The update increased the total number of listed entities to 214, following the addition of 61 new companies and the removal of five that no longer met the established criteria. The listed companies represent 11 different countries, with 192 being Israeli-based. Other nations involved include the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and Spain. The database tracks involvement in prohibited activities such as providing construction materials, surveillance equipment, or financial services that support settlement maintenance. Within the updated list, the OHCHR classifies 200 companies as contributing to adverse impacts on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, while 14 are classified as being directly linked to such impacts. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated the report serves as a reminder that corporations have responsibilities to conduct due diligence to avoid human rights abuses. Israel has rejected the database, with its mission to the UN in Geneva describing it as a “distorted mechanism” and a “political tool” designed to persecute the state. state and blacklist businesses that have committed no wrongdoing.
