The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has undertaken several initiatives to support its student body and expand its academic influence. To welcome the 2027 generation, the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters hosted FiloFest 2026. The event provided approximately 2,000 new students from sixteen undergraduate programs with an introduction to campus facilities, academic services, and university life through integration rallies and thematic stations. During the event, Faculty Director Mary Frances Rodríguez Van Gort encouraged students to embrace the stage with responsibility, describing the university as a space for “critical thinking and dialogue.” Concurrently, UNAM is expanding its financial and international reach. At the II International Congress of Scholarships and Academic Cooperation UNAM 2026, officials noted that roughly 300,000 students receive students—out of a population of over 370,000—receive financial support for needs such as food, maintenance, and mobility. Additionally, the university has established a framework collaboration agreement with the Universidad de Los Lagos in Chile to foster knowledge exchange and promote Mexican culture through the Cátedra México ULagos initiative. Regarding admissions, UNAM has launched the selection process for its Open and Distance University System (SUAyED) for the 2026 cycle. This call offers 1,955 spots in the open modality and 2,831 in the distance modality, with registration scheduled for early October 2026 and exams set for November.
